We recommend a 3 16 grout size for our ceramic tile line. They help keep your tiles in straight lines and prevent damage from the tiles rubbing against one another. Remove loose tiles and leave the space open for filling with the compound. This is an acceptable space that can be properly grouted.

The actual grout joint size shall be at least three times the actual variation of the facial dimensions of the tile supplied. Replace the grout in the lines using a grout float to push the grout into place. Special types such as slate or quarry tiles often do not have edges uniform enough to look good with tight spacing. Search the floor for any loose or damaged tiles.

Finished grout lines will vary from 1 16 to 3 16. Remove any broken pieces. When the space between tiles is so little like 1 32 which is often referred to as credit card lines or penny lines it s not possible to fill that space all the way through the bottom of the tile. Most floor tiles are 8 inches by 8 inches but larger versions are available. For small format tiles that do not have lugs i will usually use 1 16 spacers. Closest grout joints should not be less than 1 16. If the grout gaps between the ceramic tiles were less than 1 8 inch i wouldn t have to do anything but unfortunately they are more than 1 8 inch hence why i m trying to find my best way of filling the grout gaps.

Examine the grout lines. The grout lines between the tiles help to protect the tiles from damage and prevent moisture from seeping between the tiles and damaging. For tiles with lugs on only two sides of each tile you must make sure they are all stacked in the same direction that the lugs are not butted against each other. Grout can become dingy looking quickly making a tile installation look old.

For tile having a total variation of 1 16 in facial dimensions a minimum of 3 16 grout joint shall be used. If smaller spacers like 1 8 are used it will accentuate the size difference of handmade tile.
